» Loyalty of Cypriots Workers

According to a recent survey of MASMI, international market research agency and consultancy services, which is published today by Politis newspaper, the loyalty degree of staff of Cypriot companies reaches 64%. The newspaper presents the following characteristics:

  • 60% believe their employers meet the professional needs and expectations.
  • 56% admit that redundancy from the company would change their life dramatically.
  • Two thirds of respondents are "emotionally committed" with the company-employer.
  • Favorable comments made about the degree of focus on corporate customers, the financial strength of the company, and also the role of companies in the field of social responsibility.
  • Despite the relatively high (60%) rate of assessment skills of managers, only 50% thought that allowed professional development, while only 32% consider merit promotions.
  • However, 47% express satisfaction with the levels of remuneration and other benefits of staff.
  • Satisfaction about their duties and responsibilities, states 80% of workers.

The research took place in seven countries of Central and Eastern Europe, among them Cyprus and Saudi Arabia, where the last two resulted in some interesting findings about the degree of staff loyalty. In fact, only 48% of workers believe that receiving appreciation and recognition from their companies, and this leads to relatively high proportion of staff with a low degree of loyalty to their employers (30%) while only 43% indicate a strong commitment.

The investigation includes proposals to employers as four types of action:

  • Provide opportunities for professional development of staff.
  • Increase coordination between the tasks and skills of staff.
  • Clear and fair interconnection to salaries and other benefits related to performance of employees.
  • Top management should be more accessible to staff.
