The Labor Force Survey released today in Simerini newspaper states that in Cyprus in 2008, the workers were 385.7 thousand of which were 213.8 thousand males and 171.9 thousand were women. Other 13.4 thousand were unemployed.

The employment rate for people aged 15-64 years was 71.1%, 79.2% of male population and 63.2% of females, which remain the same level as the previous quarter and corresponding quarter of 2007. Regarding the educational level of the workforce in Cyprus is high because 44.7% have completed higher education and 44.8% are graduates of Lyceum and only 10.5% of the workforce has not completed Lyceum.
 
19,500 people at a rate of 11.4% were part-time workers, while the largest proportion of employees was in the service industry with 87.6%, according to the distribution of employment by sector. The full-time employees had average hours of normal working week in their main job of 39.8 hours, while part-time employees had 21.6 hours.
